A big thanks to everyone who visited my table at Anime Expo! I was a little nervous about my table placement being in the far corner, but I ended up making the most I’ve made at an artist’s alley so far – still shy of breaking even if I include every single expense, but awfully close! I offered onsite commissions for the first time too, so that may have helped out too. Speaking of which, thank you so much to the people who commissioned me, or simply showed interest in it but couldn’t due to the next-day-pickup rule. I’ll have to practice sketching characters again so I can work on them more efficiently in the future!
Let me also apologize if I ever appeared grumpy, tired or outright crazy. If you saw me anytime from Day 2 onward, chances are you saw me at my physical and mental worst due to lady pains, so if I was being unpleasant to you, I am SO SORRY! It’s not you, it was 100% me. ;_; Not surprisingly, this trip ended up being my most tearful convention trip to date, but fortunately, they were all happy tears.
Window seat. <3 My ride to the airport came late because the driver overslept... He apologized to me during the ride and really tried to get me to JFK as fast as possible. Fortunately, the airport was crowd-free and I managed to make my way through pretty quickly and made it to the gate maybe 15-20min before boarding. Phew! I also met Feria for the first time at LAX! She’s one of my long-time online friends (I think from back when I was still in high school…?), so having her at AX this time was definitely one of the highlights this trip! Finally, our decade+ online friends group in one place! *_* And many thanks to Sleepydoodler for driving us around for a late lunch and grocery shopping that day!
Feria brought this super chocolate bunny, shown here dwarfing my snacks at the hotel… 8D;
…and she punched in its head. Wait no, she slammed its head against my table first, then proceeded to punch in its head. Thanks for sharing pieces with me~ They were delicious… *v* By the way, this is her amazing cosplay of Henry from Fire Emblem! She also had Chloe from Tales of Legendia and Leon from Star Ocean Blue Sphere! <3 Speaking of Fire Emblem, there was another FE cosplayer who visited me who used to follow Serenian Century (my online manga on hiatus orz)! I’m pretty sure she visited my table before too, she already seemed to have most of my SC prints and bookmarks aaaaaa!! ;_; I remembered I had some old stickers of Beyll, so I gave her those, but I wish I could have given her more to show just how happy I was to meet her, and how grateful I was that she followed my silly comic hnggggggg!! T_____T
More friends in their lovely cosplays!
Jamuko as the female Pokemon Trainer from Pokemon BW2! Her table was separated from our group and she got placed in the middle of the sea of artists, so we missed her for the majority of the con. ;; And I swear, I got lost trying to find her table after the alley closed on Day 1 because the alley was so frickin’ huge! x_x;
Mah beautiful roomies~ <3 I didn't catch what Chrissi was cosplaying, but Stephanie and Kimi cosplayed Clover and June from 999! <3 Unfortunately, I only realized after I got back home that I took no pictures of my other roomie Joy (wtf whyyyyyyy orz) who cosplayed Kuwabara from Yu Yu Hakusho (my hero <3), Shiro from K Project, Megumi from Rurouni Kenshi, and…Lina Inverse from Slayers…? Also a character from Hataraku Maou-sama…? x_x; She had a lot, and they’re all amazing!! And she took me to Disneyland after the con!! And yet, I don’t have any pictures of her cosplays!! AAAAAAA!! /fail
Elyse as Jade(?) from Homestuck! Sorry if I got the character wrong, I’m not familiar with Homestuck… D: I wasn’t sure if she was attending AX so I was so happy when she found me! <3
Kazuhiko Inoue, known for his roles as Kakashi from Naruto and Nyanko-sensei from Natsume Yuujinchou, among others. I rarely spend time outside of the artists alley at any con, so this was my first time getting an autograph from one of the guests! I didn’t know that you needed tickets for signings until Feria told me late into Day 1, so I was ticket number 200…and the line was cut long before it was our turn. D: Fortunately for us, he was signing again on Day 2 and tickets were going to be given out first thing that morning in the Exhibit Hall… and being an artist gave me early access into the hall, so I was able to line up early and grab tickets for us both! :D Getting his autograph was one of my biggest missions this trip, as it wasn’t just me who liked this guy but also my mum! In the end, I got what I came for (with our names on it, as requested by my mum haha), and after shaking hands with him and leaving I started being such a girl and began tearing up………… ;; Also, many thanks to my table neighbors Pompi and Keyk for watching my table while I was getting his autograph, twice! I couldn’t have done it without you ladies! T_T *hugs*
I also went to the Porno Graffiti concert with Pompi, Korune and Choushi! I-I was slow packing up after the alley closed and was lagging behind as we all ran to the club, I felt so bad…I’m so sorry! You have no idea how relieved I was when we still made it inside before it started! The concert was awesome though! They were incredibly energetic and pumped, it was hard to believe that they were jet-lagged at all. I was swaying along with the music at first since I was carrying bags, but I ended up hopping around and fist pumping soon enough, my arms died. The encore also made me tear up, again, but hey, FMA feels man…
Beautiful, beautiful prints by Korune, Feesh, Shilin, Yuumei, Illycia and Vtas! This con was also a record-breaker for me in terms of loot. I came home with so many goodies this year, many of them print trades with amazing artists that I look up too! ;_; No words can properly express how grateful I am that they’d trade with me, thank you all so much!
More prints from Pompi! I haven’t played Fire Emblem yet, but I like these prints anyway… And thanks to her and Feria, I probably like Henry a lot now for all the wrong reasons. And Keyk got me a Professor Layton DS game! *_____*;;; I love puzzles in general, so I’m sure I’ll be enjoying this game a lot in the coming weeks… <3 Thank you both so much!
And they gave me a postcard print of this fabulous collaboration we made with Korune and Choushi last year… *v*
A Pokemon/Touhou print from Jamuko! <3 I'm not very familiar with Touhou (except for some of its music), but I liked this piece anyway. :3 And a Prinny beach ball that Feria got from one of the exhibitors! Thank you both for the lovelies!
Juby‘s gorgeous artbook AAAAAAAAAAAA!! I feel so bad that I was in such a rush when I got it, b-but she and JC were so adorable together (I think they were casually making hearts with their arms when I found them…?). But gosh, this book… Even my mum approved of its beauty, and she’s usually very picky about the art/prints/books I get!
And while I didn’t take a photo of it, Sachi dropped by and gave me Kazoku Game DVDs! ;; She actually first found me while in line for the Kazuhiko Inoue signing, haha. xD Thank you so much Sachi~~ <3 Kathy also dropped by on Day 4! I didn’t know that she had a table in the alley until the night of Day 3 when I was flipping through the program and found her name in the list of artists… Dx I also found Kurot at the end of Day 1, but I felt bad asking to buy stuff when she was clearly packing up to leave… but then I couldn’t find her for the rest of the con… orz I had a really hard time meeting everyone this trip since the only time I really got to browse was before the hall opened or after it closed, and often times the tables were empty when I found them. :( I had the same problem trying to catch Nayuki-chan before the hall opened, though we did have quite an adventure one night just trying to find dinner…orz We had a huge group though, with Feria, Jamuko, Pompi, Keyk, Korune, Choushi, Sleepydoodler, Psychobob, Dani, and more people I didn’t quite catch the names of…
And after AX, Joy let me crash at her house and took me to Disneyland the next day! I’ll have more on that in my next post! :) For now, let’s end with some sketches I made at the con:
Sketched these on Day 1.
I made commission samples on Day 2, and I guess they worked? I didn’t have any on Day 1 but after making these, I was always working on something. And yes, I reused the food sketch. :P
A sketch of Illycia’s OC, inked sketch of Itachi (I had no ref so I used my chibi keychain from 2007 hahaha), and an inked sketch of an OC. Thank you all so much for commissioning me! :)
